IP policy
Original work only
PatternTotem produces merchandise from original artwork, and from artwork you hold a licence for. That's the entire scope of what we do.
We do not produce
- Characters from anime, manga, games, film or television
- Sports teams, universities, or their logos
- Celebrities, musicians or public figures
- Any third-party brand, logo or trademark
- Fan art depicting any of the above
Every file is reviewed
All submitted artwork is checked before production begins. If it appears to contain third-party intellectual property, we decline the order and refund it in full.
This applies to samples too. We'd rather turn down a job than make something that shouldn't exist.
What you're confirming
When you submit artwork, you confirm that it's your own original work or that you hold a licence to reproduce it commercially, that it contains no third-party IP, and that you'll indemnify us against any claim arising from it.
That declaration is what makes it possible for us to work with small creators instead of requiring contracts and legal review for every order.
If you think we've got it wrong
If we've declined something in error, or if you hold a licence we should know about, write to patterntotem@outlook.com with the details and we'll review it.
If you believe your work has been produced without authorisation
Write to patterntotem@outlook.com. We respond to all IP complaints within 48 hours, and we will pause production on any affected order while we look into it.
Showing your work — and putting people in touch
Two optional things we offer creators. Neither is a condition of ordering, and both can be withdrawn at any time by email — no reason needed.
1. Showcase
If you tick the box, we may show your finished piece on this site and on our social media, credited as your work. You keep every right to it. Ask us to remove it and it comes down — whether or not you still order from us.
2. Introductions
If a brand or buyer sees your piece and wants to license it, we pass your details on. That is the whole of our role. We are not your agent, we do not negotiate on your behalf, and we take no cut of any licence. Any deal is between you and them, signed by you, on terms you agree.
We do not verify ownership of artwork and we make no representation about it to anyone. The declaration you sign when submitting stays yours to stand behind.
A note for fan artists
We know fan art is a huge part of how people start selling. We're not making a judgement about it — we just can't manufacture it. If your portfolio mixes original and fan work, send us the original pieces and we'll make those.
